Back to the list

what’s your business here, Elijah?

when I became afraid
I rose up and went for my soul
and I went into the wilderness
a day’s journy

and at length came and sat down
under a certain broom tree
and said ‘It’s enough now
take my soul away’

finally I lay down
and fell asleep under the broom tree
but look now an angel of you
was touching me and said

‘rise up, eat this cake
for the journey is too much for you’
so I kept run away from you
in the power of you

there I finally
entered into a cave
that I might spend the night there
and look!

you were passing by
you were not in the wind
you were not in the quaking
you were not in the fire

then there was a calm low voice
‘what’s your business here, Elijah?
go, return on your way
to wilderness’
